Country Stars Party With ACM Lifting Lives Campers
June 25 2012 | Natalie Rankin

Luke Bryan, Lauren Alaina, Jana Kramer and Big & Rich teamed with 28 campers from around the nation at the ACM Lifting Lives Music Camp which took place June 18-22 in Nashville. The camp is a week-long experience for people diagnosed with Williams Syndrome, a genetic disorder studied by the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities.

The residential camp has the dual purpose of studying the disorder and other developmental disabilities and providing music enrichment through performance and education.

On the first day of the camp, songwriters Brett Eldredge and David Lee Murphy wrote "We're Havin' a Party" with the campers. The next day, the campers recorded their song with producer Paul Worley at Ocean Way Studio and enjoyed a visit from Bryan. Worley and Bryan took time to answer questions about the music industry, from writing to recording to touring.

Later in the week, Lauren Alaina joined the campers for karaoke while Kramer took part in a cookout on Vanderbilt's campus. The campers' week ended with a spirited performance of "We're Havin' a Party" with Big & Rich at the Grand Ole Opry on Friday night.

The goals of the Academy of Country Music's Lifting Lives Music Camp are to build independence and social skills and also to explore and celebrate musical ability.
