Hunter Hayes Helping Flaming Lips on O Music Awards Tour
June 27 2012 | CMT.com Staff

Hunter Hayes will be playing an early show -- 6:30 a.m. CT, to be exact -- on Thursday (June 28) in Hattiesburg, Miss., to open for the Flaming Lips as the alt-rock legends attempt to make history during the O Music Awards. The world's first 24-hour awards show live stream begins Wednesday (June 27) at 7:30 p.m. ET on the O Music Awards website.

Hayes and Grace Potter & the Nocturnals are just two of the acts scheduled to open shows during the Flaming Lips' whirlwind tour aimed at breaking the Guinness World Records title for the most concerts in multiple cities during a 24-hour period. Traveling in a vintage tour bus, the Flaming Lips will play a series of concerts in eight cities. The record is currently held by Jay-Z.

Additionally, fan voting is underway for the O Music Awards, presented by Viacom Music Group, which includes CMT, MTV, VH1 and Logo. The awards celebrate and honor the artists, fans and innovators impacting digital music culture. Among the nominees are Taylor Swift (up for Most Extreme Fan Outreach and Fan Army), Blake Shelton (Must Follow Artist on Twitter) and Mumford & Sons (Fan Army). Partial proceeds from the show will be donated to VH1's Save the Music Foundation.

The Flaming Lips concert tour begins in Memphis and will stop in several locations in Mississippi, including Clarksdale, Oxford, Jackson, Hattiesburg and Biloxi before heading west to Louisiana for shows in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Other opening acts include

New Fumes, Gary Clark Jr., Neon Indian, Givers and Grimes.
